The Vatican would have a lot less to gripe about vis-à-vis the SSPX if the issue was truly “they behave like Protestants.”

No, this debate has distilled down to one final question:

Has sacred Tradition itself become the only acceptable anathama in the post-Vatican II Church?

If Rome proceeds with another SSPX excommunication, many faithful Catholics will see it as a declaration of war and confirmation that the Faith, whole and entire, has become unwelcome in the Church that once defended it.
